"Jenny was an exceptionally beautiful and intelligent little girl. She could do amazing things at twelve months. She spoke fluently and met all the criteria for that of an exceptional child," says Mary Donachy, her maternal grandmother. "When she was fourteen months old she received her inoculations and seemed to do well for the first twenty-four hours. Thereafter, we began to notice a rapid change in Jenny. Within days, she just seemed to leave us to regress into a world of her own. There was no eye contact, no speech, and seemingly no recognition of those around her. When I approached professionals, they showed little concern, suggesting that she was simply a "slow-bloomer"
This grandmother began to keep a log. She entered information into the log each day and at the end of each month she would have twenty copies printed, which she sent to individuals she believed might pray for the child, help to find solutions, and even be instrumental in coming up with a diagnosis. Some copies of the log were sent to professionals.
Sometimes referred to as "GrandMary", she plans to share this journal with the public via the web. Those who are interested can contact her by email. She is willing to be open to those who might want to contact her. "I'm not an authority on Autism," she states, "but there is always a comfort in numbers." If questions or suggestions are sent to the email address listed below, please put "Autism Response" in the subject column.
She plans to release Jenny's Journal sometime in May.
