Affiliate marketing is a great way to start your own home business
without the expense and pressure of becoming an immediate expert in

optimisation, google ad words and other industry jargon that when you
start are definitely a foreign language.
So what exactly is affiliate marketing?
Basically you sell someone else's product such as an ebook, study
program, audio program, software program or any other marketable item.
You are then paid a commission for every sale that is made by people
who purchase through you. You don't deal with payments instead all you
do is obtain a web page link, banner, web address etc. that forwards
anyone who clicks on it to the sales page of the person who created the
product. The link has code in it that links all of the sales back to
you. Therefore you don't need a website - instead you use the website
of the person who knows their own product best.

There are a number of sites online that provide a massive database
of people who have product that they want others to sell for them. Open
an account on these websites and search them to become familiar with
the site and to see what sorts of products are on offer for you to
promote.
2. Find a Niche Market
Instead of just searching aimlessly for a product it makes more sense,
and saves you time, if you work out who you can sell to and then find a
product that fulfills their needs. There are a number of ways to market
and promote your product however you will get more clicks and purchases
if you find your target market.
One way to find your target market is to visit networking sites and
forums. You can search for groups on yahoo, google and msn or try other
sites including myspace, facebook, ning.com and xanga.com Search these
sites for unique groups and find out what problems a number of members
are expressing. You may say 'Problems? My life has plenty of problems
so why would I want anymore?' That's because you are going to become a
problem SOLVER by finding a solution to their problem.
Another option is to find a unique group with a common interest and
then search clickbank or paydotcom for that common interest and see
what product options appear. For example you may find a group of pet
owners so you then search clickbank for animals or pets. You may find
an ebook that teaches people how to create their own healthy,
affordable pet food at home. You could then go onto the forum and tell
people that you have just found a book that they may be interested in.
You would then give them the website address - making sure it has your
affiliate code so that all sales earn you commission.
3. Promote Your New Product
There are two options when it comes to promoting your product - Free and/or Paid.
Free Options
Depending on your budget you may want to first try the free
options. Free options include word of mouth, free classifieds (online
and offline), emails to your database and email lists, add an
electronic signature to all outgoing emails promoting your new website,
write a press release and write and place at least one article.
Basically when it comes to free methods you are only limited by your
imagination.
Paid Options
At some point, if not initially, like any business you really
should invest some money into promoting it. Some methods you could use
include paid classified ads, creating business cards, send out
traditional mailers (there are even companies you can pay to do this
for you), Google Adwords or other Pay Per Click traffic or pay a
company, such as rent-a-list.com, to send emails to a targeted group of
people who give permission to receive promotional emails.
Using a diverse range of promotional options will increase your sales
potential. Be aware that promoting your business is not a one time
activity, rather you need to continually revise your marketing and
finding new ways to promote your business to keep driving traffic to
your webpage.
